Safe Travel
Theft
Pickpockets and bag snatchers operate in Milan. You need to be vigilant around train stations, on public transport, in
Piazza del Duomo and in the busy shopping streets. You should also pay attention in train stations and around the old
city centres of other towns, especially Brescia and Verona.
If driving, a scam that has been known to occur at stops such as service stations and lookout points involves a tyre be-
ing surreptitiously punctured when the vehicle is unattended. A couple of scammers offer to help but, while one distracts
the travellers, the other is emptying your vehicle.
In case of theft or loss, always report the incident to police within 24 hours and ask for a statement, otherwise your
travel-insurance company won't pay out.
