The Visconti-Sforza tarot deck (1463) is one of the oldest card decks in the world. When they were com-
missioned, the cards were still known as
Trionfi
('triumphs', ie trump) cards, and used for everyday play-
ing. They had a significant impact on the visual composition, card numbering and interpretation of mod-
ern decks.
