( 031 95 03 22; www.bellagiosilvio.com ; Via Carcano 10-12, Bellagio; d from €180; Mar-mid-Nov & Christ-
mas; ) Located above the small fishing hamlet of Loppia, a short walk from the
centre of Bellagio through the gorgeous Villa Melzi gardens, this family-run hotel is Bel-
lagio's best-value accommodation. From the contemporary Zen-like lakefront rooms you
look out over the 10th-century church of Santa Maria, the gardens of Villa Melzi and
across to Villa Carlotta on the western shore. The hotel restaurant with its outdoor terrace
is also well regarded locally (meals €30 to €40). The hotel has recently obtained the lease
for Bellagio's public lido (beach) so hotel guests have free use of the pool, complete with
diving board over the lake.
Lake Como West Bank
Alberghetto della Marianna €
( 0344 4 30 95; www.la-marianna.com ; Via Regina 57, Cadenabbia di Griante; d €80-95; ) About 200m
north of the ferry landing in Cadenabbia, this rambling house on the lakeside road offers
eight rooms. The place, with dark wooden beams and a charmingly chaotic feel to it, is
nothing at all like the grander affairs further down the road. Rooms have parquet floors,
tasteful wood furniture and soothing decor. It has a great place to eat too.

Hotel La Perla€€
( 034 44 17 07; www.laperlatremezzo.com ; Via Romolo Quaglino 7, Tremezzo; d €125-145, with lake view
€140-160, family ste €185-235; ) It's rare that hotels are as universally acclaimed as this
one. Rooms are immaculate, service is warm and friendly, and the vantage point from Tre-
mezzo is one of the loveliest on Lake Como. It's all housed in an artful reconstruction of a
1960s villa. Definitely pay extra for a room with a view.

Villa Mirabella€€
( 034 44 30 90; www.villamirabella.com ; Via Regina 13, Cadenabbia; d with garden/lake view from €125/145, ste
with lake view €190; ) Rooms in this lovely converted 19th-century villa looking out
across the water towards Bellagio are quite simple but they're fresh and lovingly main-
tained with parquet floors. The public areas have plenty of antiques and the service is
friendly and professional. Highly recommended.
