techniques. If you choose to lunch at Trattoria Caprini ( Click here ) , 5km further north in Torbe, you can
sample them with homemade sopressa (salami).
From Torbe loop over the ridge along Via Scandola, through Valle and Fava and drop down to
Marano di
Valpolicella , with its large-domed Romanesque church. From here take the SP33b to
Fumane and
Al-
legrini ( Click here ), where wine tastings are held in the 16th-century Villa della Torre. Locals flock to
Oster-
ia Numero Uno ( Click here ) for superb cucina casalinga (home cooking). From Fumane detour to
Valentina
Cubi ( Click here ) to sample the area's only certified organic wines.
Then head southwest first on SP33 and then SP4 to pretty San Giorgio di Valpolicella situated on a hilltop
in the heart of Amarone country. Here you'll find the early Romanesque Pieve di San Giorgio with frescos
dating from the 11th century and a wonderfully crooked cloister. Book in to Trattoria dalla Rosa Alda for a
memorable evening meal before collapsing upstairs on an antique bed in one of the ten bedrooms.
