In-Depth Information
Via Rocca continues east beside the weathered town walls, leading away from the main
tourist drag and towards the town's eastern gate, which is dedicated to San Zeno; his im-
ages feature in a mosaic on the outer side. At the neighbouring neoclassical Chiesa di San
Martino leave the walls temporarily, head a few steps down Via Chiesa, then right into Via
Francesco Feliciano Scolari, through a couple of small squares and into Corso Cangrande,
which again hugs the walls.
Lazise's final gate is Porta Nuova , 'new' in that it was built by the ruling Della Scala fam-
ily in the 14th century. Look out for the mosaic of San Martino, complete with the castles
of Lazise in the background. A few metres more leads back to the harbour. You could do
the whole circumnavigation in 10 minutes flat, but picturesque alleyways, squares and
shops provide plenty of appealing detours.
