Car ferries yo-yo between west-bank Toscolano-Maderno and east-bank Torri del
Benaco, and seasonally between Limone sul Garda and Malcesine. A small car costs
€10.70 one way.
BUS
APTV ( 045 805 78 11; www.aptv.it ) Runs buses around the lake. In the west buses run between
Desenzano del Garda train station and Riva del Garda (two hours, up to six daily). In the
east hourly services run between Riva del Garda and Peschiera del Garda train station (1½
hours).
Trasporti Brescia ( 030 440 61; www.trasportibrescia.it ; Via Cassale 3/a, Brescia) Operates the Riva del
Garda-Brescia (two hours, four daily) route.
Trentino Trasporti ( 0461 821 000; www.ttesercizio.it ) Hourly buses between Riva del Garda,
Arco (20 minutes) and Trento (1¾ hours).
CAR
Lake Garda sits just north of the A4 Milan-Venice autostrada, and just west of the A22
Modena-Trento route. A single-lane road circles the lake shore and is heavy with traffic in
summer. Local tourist offices can advise about car hire.
TRAIN
Desenzano del Garda and Peschiera del Garda are both on the Milan-Venice train line and
have hourly trains in each direction. Excellent connections with Verona make the city an
easy day trip.

Lake Garda South Bank
Easily accessible from the A4 autostrada, the southern shore of Lake Garda is the most
developed and can get extremely busy in summer, especially around Peschiera del Garda,
Sirmione and Desenzano. The latter is known as the porta del lago (gateway to the lake)
and is a major transport hub, while Peschiera is a base for families keen on visiting the
lake's enormous amusement parks.
