FOOD
Eating
Plenty of charming eateries, some with a long history, offer a mix of local and more gen-
eral Lombard dishes. Cremonese delicacies include
bollito
(boiled meats),
cotechino
(boiled pork sausage) and
mostarda
(fruit in a sweet mustard sauce).

Be-
hind the dilapidated facade lurks a sparkling gem. A series of vaulted rooms, each with
different colour scheme and some with ceiling frescoes, winds off from the entrance and
past the kitchen. There is something noble about the atmosphere, with the antique cup-
boards and dark timber tables and chairs. The hearty Lombard cooking also comes in at a
refreshingly competitive cost.

A few steps from the
Piazza del Comune, this place is full every night with a happy mix of tourists and locals
with more of the latter - always a good sign. The pizzas are good, while the
risotto ai
fruta di mare
is chockful of shellfish. Large complimentary foccacia and a bruschetta
round out an excellent overall package.
