Getting There & Around
AIR
Orio al Serio ( 035 32 63 23; www.sacbo.it ) , 4km southeast of Bergamo train station, has regular
flights to/from the UK and other European destinations, as a result of which Bergamo is
increasingly one of the most popular entry points into northern Italy.
ATB buses ( 035 23 60 26; www.atb.bergamo.it ) to/from Orio al Serio airport depart every 20
minutes from Bergamo bus and train stations (€2.10, 15 minutes). Direct buses also con-
nect the airport with Milan and Brescia.
BUS
ATB bus 1 connects the train station with the funicular to the Upper Town and Colle
Aperto (going the other way not all buses stop right at the station but at the Porta Nuova
stop). From Colle Aperto, either bus 21 or a funicular continues uphill to San Vigilio. Buy
tickets, valid for 75 minutes' travel on buses, for €1.25 from machines at the train and fu-
nicular stations or at newspaper stands.
The main bus station ( 035 28 90 00, 800 139392; www.bergamotrasporti.it ) for provincial services
is across Piazzale Marconi from the train station.
CAR
From Milan or Brescia, take the A4 motorway and follow the Bergamo exits.
Traffic is restricted in the Città Alta, although you can approach and find limited park-
ing outside the city walls. Otherwise, use metered parking or car parks in the Lower
Town.
TRAIN
One or two trains run every hour between Milan (not all stop at Stazione Centrale) and
Bergamo (€5.25, 50 to 65 minutes). Every 30 to 60 minutes a train runs to/from Brescia
(€4.55, one to 1½ hours). Change there for Cremona or Mantua.
