GOOGLE MAP (Piazza dell'Indipendenza; 7-11am & 2-5pm) , with its huge fresco of St Christopher,
and a smaller one of the Virgin Mary and Christ adorning the facade. Similarly decorated
is the 14th-century Chiesa di San Biagio (Piazza San Biagio; 7am-noon & 2-5pm) , the difference be-
ing that these frescoes are not 20th-century restorations.
Situated west over the railway line is the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie (Via Convento;
7am-6pm) , a 15th-century church with an extraordinary fresco cycle (recently restored after
being damaged by fire in 1996) of the life and death of Christ. The centrepiece is a panel
depicting Christ's Crucifixion.

CARNIVAL
Rabadan
( www.rabadan.ch ) Bellinzona's rowdy carnival starts on a Thursday seven-and-a-half weeks
before Easter Sunday.
Piazza Blues Festival
Four days of international blues are brought to the city in summer (June/July). Entry is
free except to the main stage on the last two days (Sfr15).

local favourite with large pasta dishes and daily specials, or you can just order a salad.
