Albergo Silvio
( 031 95 03 22; www.bellagiosilvio.com ; Via Carcano 12, Bellagio; meals €25-30; noon-3pm & 6.30-10pm
Mar-mid-Nov & Christmas) Operating since 1919, this place must be getting something right to
achieve the seemingly unanimous acclaim. Simple food offerings at reasonable prices
combine with lovely views west over the lake. From the pergola garden outside, you also
espy the Romanesque Chiesa di Santa Maria of Loppia in among the cypresses. It's 1km
south of the centre of Bellagio above Loppia, which you can walk down to from here
along an overgrown stairway.
You might start with a riso e filetto di pesce (rice with lemon juice and Parmesan,
topped by fillets of the day's lake catch), followed by a frittura leggera di luccio (light
fry-up of pike chunks).

Ristorante Antica Pozzo
( 339 873 61 88; www.bellagioanticopozzo.eu ; Salita Mella 26; meals €35-40; noon-10pm) They do the
simple things well here - think pizza, pasta and other Italian staples served on an agree-
able open courtyard.

Terrazza Barchetta
( 031 95 13 89; www.ristorantebarchetta.com ; Salita Mella 13; meals €40-45; noon-2.30pm & 7-10.30pm)
The intimate terrace just above a crossroads of laneways in Bellagio's old town is a fine
place for a meal. The restaurant has been around since 1887, which is plenty of time to
perfect dishes such as deboned white lake fish in a pistachio crust or guinea fowl with
whisky and mushroom sauce.

Shopping
Bellagio's popularity has spawned a disproportionate number of boutiques for a small
town. As a general rule, it's antique or souvenir shops along the waterfront, and clothing
and craft boutiques climbing the hillside.
FOOD & DRINK
Il Cortiletto
( 333 7 86 00 90; Salita Plinio 5; 10.30am-1pm & 2-7.30pm Thu-Tue) This tiny shop is filled with
carefully chosen, high-quality food products from around Italy, from the local (honey and
olive oil from Bellagio, wines from Valtellina) to those from further afield (products from
Tuscany and Puglia). This is also the place to arrange cooking classes ( Click here ) .
