Getting There & Around
BOAT
Lake Maggiore boats call in at the wharf equidistant from Piazza Grande and Piazza
Stazione in Locarno and at Ascona.
BUS
Postal buses to the western valleys leave from outside Locarno train station. Bus 31 from
Locarno's train station and Piazza Grande stops at Ascona's post office, with departures
every 15 minutes (Sfr3).
CAR
The SS34 road from Verbania follows Lake Maggiore north to Locarno. From Lugano,
follow the A2 motorway north and take the Locarno turn-off. There is cheap street park-
ing (Sfr4 for 10 hours) along Via della Morettina.
TRAIN
Trains run every one to two hours from Brig (Sfr53, 2½ hours), passing through Italy
(bring your passport). Change trains at Domodossola. Various trains reach Locarno from
