The fastest way to Varese is via the A8 motorway from Milan. If you're driving into cent-
ral Varese, follow the signs to the parking station at Piazza Repubblica.

Regular but sluggish trains leave from Milan's Porta Venezia and Porta Garibaldi stations
for Varese (€60, 55 to 80 minutes). Some of these continue to Laveno on Lake Maggiore.
