white linen, soft music and a largely seafood menu, Il Clandestino is worth searching out.
Some dishes have a Sicilian touch, with Sicilian prawns a recurring theme. It does some
excellent lake-fish dishes, too, but acknowledges the existence of red meat only occasion-
ally.

Getting There & Around
BOAT
Boats depart from the ferry dock on Piazza Marconi and connect Stresa with Arona (one
way adult/child €6.50/3.10, 40 minutes), Angera (€6.50/3.10, 35 minutes), Baveno (€3.90/
2, 20 minutes) and Verbania Pallanza (€5/2.50, 35 minutes).
BUS
Buses leave from Piazza Marconi on the waterfront at Stresa for destinations around the
lake and elsewhere, including Milan, Novara and Lake Orta. The daily Verbania-Milan
intercity bus service operated by SAF ( 0323 55 21 72; www.safduemila.com ) links Stresa with
Arona (€2.25, 20 minutes), Verbania Pallanza (€2.25, 20 minutes) and Verbania-Intra
(€2.25, 25 minutes) and Milan (€9, 1½ hours).
