seum admission €7, plus guided tour €13/10; nonmatch days 10am-6pm; Lotto) Unlike the Duomo,
San Siro Stadium wasn't designed to hold the entire population of Milan. On a Sunday af-
ternoon amid 85,000 football-mad citizens, however, it can certainly feel like it. The city's
two clubs, AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano (aka Inter), play on alternate weeks
from October to May.
Guided tours of the 1920s-built stadium take you behind the scenes to the players' locker
rooms and include a visit to the Museo Inter e Milan , a shrine of memorabilia and film foot-
age. The accompanying stadium tour covers the locker room, where you can gingerly rest
your bum on the same bench as countless naked football legends.
You can buy tickets for games on the day at kiosks around the site. To purchase them
you need to take some form of ID. To purchase tickets in advance see
www.livefootballtickets.com .
Take tram 24, bus 95, 49 or 72, or the metro to the Lotto stop, from where a free bus
shuttles to the stadium.
APERITIVO
Happy hour elsewhere in the world might mean downing cut-price pints and stale crisps, but not in oh-so-stylish
Milan. Its nightly aperitivo is a two- or three-hour ritual, starting around 6pm, where for €8 to €20, a cocktail,
glass of wine, or beer comes with an unlimited buffet of bruschetta, foccacia, cured meats, salads, and even sea-
food and pasta. (Occasionally you'll pay a cover charge up front that includes a drink and buffet fare, which gen-
erally works out the same.) Take a plate and help yourself; snacks are also sometimes brought to your table. Most
of the city's bars offer aperitivi, in some form or other.
La Salumeria della Musica
( 02 5680 7350; www.lasalumeriadellamusica.com ; Via Pasinetti 4; 9pm-2am Mon-Sat Sep-Jun; 24) The
'delicatessen of music' is a firm favourite with Milan's alternative scene. Come here for
new acts, literary salons, cultural events and jazz. Shows start around 10.30pm and if you
get the munchies grab a plate of cheese and cold cuts. You'll find it south of the city
centre, just off Via Giuseppe Ripamonti.
