The good people
at the Islanders are not setting out to win any 'best in its class' awards with their establish-
ment but the virtue is that it's kept in good shape and you'll be made to feel at home. The
four bungalows (eight rooms in total) are unpretentious but clean and the property opens
onto Anse Kerlan. There's an onsite restaurant. Air-con is extra (€8).

Villas de Mer is a great midrange
option with good accommodation for its price following a full refit. Here the 10 rooms oc-
cupy two rows of low-slung buildings facing each other. A highlight is the restaurant,
which has a fabulous beach frontage and serves fresh seafood. The atmosphere is relaxed
and friendly.

Indian
Ocean Lodge has gone upmarket since a freshen-up in 2011, but it has retained its reason-
able prices and is a great place to enjoy a midrange-style resort without breaking the bank.
The rooms combine classical luxury and elegant simplicity, and have balconies that afford
good sea views. Amenities include a pool and a restaurant. It's appropriate for couples and
families alike.

Dhevatara is sleek
and imaginative, a boutique-ish luxury venture loaded with more cool than any other on
the island. With only 10 rooms divided in two categories (garden views and ocean views),
it's a great choice for couples. Rooms are not huge but are individually designed; the ones
upstairs get more natural light. The romantic restaurant, near the pool, specialises in
haute
cuisine
and is a great place for a cocktail. Facilities include a spa.
