Location, location,
location: this family-run hotel, among rocks on the idyllic cove of Anse Soleil, has the
location thing sorted. The rooms, which are clean and simple with private terraces, are
less exciting than the views (and location) but the flowery grounds add a lot of charm.
Rooms 6, 7 and 8 open onto the sea shore, but the more recent Premier rooms, which are
slightly set back from the shore, are much larger. Half board is available. Free canoes.
Anse Soleil Café is next door.

A cluster of well-organ-
ised villas cascades down a hillside cloaked in green, each enjoying stupendous ocean
views. Apart from the four ordinary 'garden studios', which are just off the main road, the
17 units are sun-filled, capacious and tastefully done out. A real hit is the pool, built at the
foot of a big granite boulder. There's an onsite restaurant (by the pool) and an art gallery
where you can marvel at (and buy) works by local painter Gerard Devoud. One weak
point: the walk up to the bungalows may leave the terminally unfit short of breath. You
will need a car to get around from here. Minimum three nights.

The '80s-
style exterior could use a facelift, but it's one of the least expensive resorts you'll find for
a beachfront stay on Mahé. While there is nothing very remarkable about the flimsy
motel-like structure, the 124 rooms are OK and amenities include a small spa, a pool and
tennis courts, as well as B-level restaurants and grounds. This is an acceptable deal if you
can get internet specials (when we last checked, rooms cost €194) and like to socialise.

tion, but low on atmosphere, this sprawling resort is not a bad option if you can get online
promos. Its public facilities are its strength: two beaches with a full array of free water
