hills above Anse Royale, are the answer. The three units are self-contained, with cosy liv-
ing areas and private verandahs overlooking the tiny swimming pool, with the ocean as a
backdrop. Air-con is an extra €5 per day. If you're preparing your own food, there's a
store 400m down the road. If you don't fancy cooking, the maid can prepare excellent
Creole meals. It's 400m before Le Jardin du Roi. No wi-fi.

lingly clean, fully equipped bungalows that are well spaced out; recent furniture and mat-
tresses; expansive lawns; family-friendly; lovely beach with good swimming; fishermen
selling their catch on the beach in the afternoon' - this is what we scribbled on our note-
pad when we visited. Add a few sunloungers and the proximity of a store, and you have a
great deal. There's a minimum stay of three nights.

restaurant way up the hills at the spice garden ( Click here ) , and it puts you in the mood for
a fruit juice or a crunchy salad as soon as you sit down. Seafood and sandwiches also fea-
ture on the menu. Save a cranny for ice creams: they are confected fresh on the premises
with fruits from the garden. The Sunday planteur buffet (Rs 400) is a popular weekly
event. A beer costs a whopping Rs 70.

classic beachfront setting with a shady terrace and a tropical garden characterises this eat-
ery with a modernish feel. Chow down on subtly flavoured fish, seafood, curries and meat
from an elaborate menu. Head here on Sundays for the Creole buffet (RS 400) served at
lunchtime.
