fortable little colonial-style hotel is right on the beach, and just a 10-minute boat ride from
Victoria. It has a tranquil, convivial and homey atmosphere with 12 sunny rooms, two vil-
las and lovely gardens (but not much shade). The restaurant serves super-fresh seafood.
Prices drop for stays longer than three nights.
WORTH A TRIP
CARANA BEACH
Here's a secret, only known to locals (whisper it softly): Carana Beach. This tiny, dreamlike cove lapped by lapis
lazuli waters offers a small patch of sand framed by big boulders, with a couple of palm trees leaning over the
shore. It's at Northeast Point; look for a cement road on the left, in a high gradient descent of the road, or ask loc-
als.

This venture strikes
a perfect balance between luxury, seclusion and privacy (there are only 24 villas), on a
hillside. This is a romantic resort, extremely quiet and popular with honeymooners. Facil-
ities include a small pool and a spa. One grumble: the beach lacks the wow factor.

Spread
over 220 hectares of private land, the sprawling Ste Anne features a host of facilities and
amenities, including an infinity pool, five restaurants, a handful of bars, a well-respected
spa, a gym, a watersports centre, a kids club, tennis courts and gift shops. It comprises 87
villas (some with their own pool) scattered amid well-tended gardens and coconut palms.
The icing on the cake: three beaches, all with different orientations. It's appropriate for
couples and families alike. One quibble, though: part of the resort faces west towards
Victoria harbour.
