WOMEN TRAVELLERS
The sight of women travelling, be it in a group or alone, is not met with too much surprise
or curiosity, and women travelling by themselves should encounter no difficulties, as long
as sensible precautions observed in most Western countries are adhered to.
Women can enter most bars alone, but there are still a few places where this may attract
unwanted attention - you'll get a pretty good idea when you enter.
It's not advisable to walk alone on the trails in the interior.
Getting There & Away

International Airport ( 0262 28 16 16; www.reunion.aeroport.fr ) about 10km east of St-Denis. For
details on getting to St-Denis from the airport see Click here . Coming from Mauritius, you
have the option of landing at Pierrefonds Airport (

south of the island near St-Pierre.
The main international carriers are Air France ( Click here ) , Air Austral ( Click here ) and
Corsair ( Click here ) , which offer direct daily flights to France.
Air Austral also operates regular flights to Antananarivo (Madagascar), Bangkok (Thail-
and), Chennai (India), Johannesburg (South Africa), Mahé (Seychelles), Mauritius,
Mayotte and Moroni (Comoros).
Other airlines include Air Mauritius ( Click here ) , which flies three to four times a day to
Mauritius, Air Madagascar ( Click here ) , which serves various destinations in Madagascar,

All airlines have offices in St-Denis and/or at the airport. Some airlines are also represen-
ted in St-Pierre.
