Le Palmier

Lacking excitement, maybe, but this friendly B&B down a little lane at the east end of St-
Philippe is a safe bet. Rooms are neat, with immaculate tiles, prim bathrooms and colour-
ful bedspreads for a dash of panache. Avoid the larger one at the back, which has obstruc-
ted views. Guests can use the pool in front of the owners' house if they stay at least two
nights - a good incentive, indeed.

( 0692 64 89 89, 0262 37 03 12; www.domaineduvacoa.fr ; 12 Chemin Vacoa; d incl breakfast €65-70;
) This B&B set in a pert little case créole features two spacious rooms enhanced with
splashes of colour, back-friendly mattresses, crisply dressed beds and spotless bathrooms.
Au Domaine du Vacoa's ultimate trump card, though, is its infinity pool - which was built
in 2013 - with great sea views. At dinner (€26), warm your insides with duck, vacoa and
other vegetables from the garden - all organic, of course.

Écomusée de St-Philippe, this laid-back eatery set in a small Creole house has an agree-
able terrace overlooking the main road. The eclectic menu covers enough territory to
please most palates, from wood-fired pizzas (available at dinner on Friday, Saturday and
Sunday) and Creole classics to mainstream Chinese and métro dishes. Unfortunately, it's
on a busy thoroughfare and isn't very peaceful.
