If you want to explore the Hauts, take the turn-off for
Petite Île

wobbles slowly up to some charming villages. Continue uphill until the junction with the
D3. If you turn left, you'll reach
Mont-Vert-les-Hauts
, approximately 5km to the west (and
from then it's an easy drive downhill to the coast via Mont-Vert-les-Bas); if you turn right,
you will cross
Manapany-les-Hauts
before reaching
Les Lianes
for St-Joseph.

Beaches
Beach lovers should stop at
Plage de Grande Anse
, which is framed with basaltic cliffs and
features a white-sand beach, a protected
tide pool
and picnic shelters (take the D30 that
branches off the RN2 and winds down for about 2km to the beach). On weekends, the
beach is often swamped with locals. Note that it's not safe to swim outside the tide pool
due to unpredictable currents.
A few kilometres further east, there's another lovely swimming spot at Manapany-les-
Bains. There's no proper beach here (the shore is rocky) but there's a protected
tide pool
where you can splash about. It gets crowded on weekends.
