This modern
auberge
is run by a friendly couple and is surrounded by a pleas-
ant garden. The five adjoining rooms are a bit of a squeeze, but the setting more than com-
pensates. There's also a stand-alone bungalow, which offers more privacy, and two larger
cases
(Creole-style houses) that are ideal for families. Bonus: there's a widely acclaimed
on-site restaurant - it's worth opting for half board.

Les Géraniums
( 0262 59 11 06; hotelgeranium@wanadoo.fr; RN3, PK24; s/d €58/67; )
The Géraniums is a tad
overrated but nonetheless of a good standard, especially if you nab a room with mountain
views, especially rooms 2, 4, 6 or 8; avoid the rooms that overlook the parking lot. Pre-
cious perks include a sauna, a hammam and a well-regarded on-site
restaurant
(menus €22-30)
which is a lovely place to dine on innovative regional cooking. It's in Le Vingt-Quatrième
on the main road south of Bourg-Murat.

A cluster
of small cottages scattered amid gardens that carpet a knoll. The rooms are a tad frayed
around the edges and it's overpriced but it's an acceptable fallback.
