This recently upgraded place is a very good all-round hotel-cum-resort. Its rooms and
bungalows offer a great choice for everyone from couples to families. While the standard
rooms feel a bit claustrophobic, the bungalows offer ample space. Visitors after more pri-
vacy can choose a room in the newish Guetali building, which shelters enticing rooms
with contemporary lines. Precious perks include two pools, two restaurants, a spa and
sprawling gardens. Views take in the lagoon. Check the website for special offers. It's on
Route des Colimaçons, north of town.
Eating
L'Orange Givrée
( 0262 54 74 63; Rue Le Barrelier; mains €5-10; 8am-4pm Mon-Sat) Blink and you'll miss the tiny
entrance of this funky little den next to the tourist office. It whips up appetising salads,
plats du jour (daily specials), sandwiches and other treats at wallet-friendly prices.
Everything is fresh and homemade - unfussy cuisine de marché (market cuisine) at its
best. Make sure you save a corner for the criminally addictive chocolate mousse. Good
breakfast too (€6).
CAFETERIA
Au Bout La Bas
( 0262 55 98 72; 37 Rue du Lagon; mains €9-19; lunch & dinner Tue-Sat) Brimming with good cheer,
this tropical cocoon in a street running parallel to the seafront serves excellent value-for-
the-money food. A sampling of choices might include Leu French cheeseburger (yes!) and
fresh fish or a toothsome tartine (a slice of bread with toppings). Special mention should
also go to the giant-sized salads. The homemade desserts are every bit as devastatingly de-
licious as they sound. Hmm, the chocolate mousse.
EUROPEAN €€
Le Zat
( 0262 42 20 92; 14 Rue de la Compagnie des Indes; mains €13-17; lunch) Near the harbour, this un-
pretentious venture majors in fish and meat dishes. The menu changes daily, as displayed
on a handwritten blackboard.
