table d'hôte
charm from behind the honey-tinged
facade. If we could choose one place to eat in Chamarel and felt like a tranquil eating ex-
perience, this would win hands down. The restaurant is situated along the Baie du
Cap-Chamarel Rd beyond the post office but before the Terres de 7 Couleurs.

Perched on the hillside
1km west of Chamarel along the descending road to Black River, this local mainstay is
best known for its cantilevered verandah delivering a postcard-perfect panorama of the
west coast. The food is also worth a mention - the finely tuned menu features an assort-
ment of surf and turf mains that include octopus curry with green papaya, Australian beef,
or grilled cockerel with tandoori spices. If you don't eat here, the view from the lookout
100m down the road is similar.
