doubles as a guesthouse, the Kalimaritsa's grapevine bedecked courtyard garden is lovely.
Rooms are a bit musty and old-fashioned with their big floral carpets and garish fabrics,
though they're passable for an overnight stay. Dining features grilled meats and fish
(mains 5 to 8 lv).

Hotel Danube Pearl $

little village of Popina, just west of Vetren, this modern riverside hotel has ten comfort-
able rooms, as well as a small outdoor pool, gym and a restaurant. It's a scenic spot and
good value.

Vetren offers a good selection of Bulgarian dishes. Basic, traditional-style rooms are also
available. It's signposted up a small driveway heading towards the river.

(ul Dunav 19; mains 3-7 lv; 7am-1am) This fairly basic place in the centre has no ar-
chitectural appeal, but does have the best food in Srebârna, from salads to grilled meats.

Getting There & Away
There is no bus station in either Srebârna village or Vetren. Buses traversing the main Sil-
istra-Ruse route drop off passengers on the roadside 1.5km from the centre of Srebârna
village. Alternatively, local bus 22 from Silistra travels several times daily into Srebârna
village.
To reach Vetren, enter Srebârna village and just keep following the main street, ul Dun-
avska. After 4km, you'll reach Vetren, which stops at the river.
