Between May and October, Varna hosts the renowned
Varna Summer International
Festival

. Established in 1926, the festival features outstand-
ing events, including opera, the biennial International Ballet Competition (held in even-
numbered years) and choral, jazz and folk music. Events are held at the Open-Air Theatre

. Programs and information about buying tickets are
well advertised beforehand in Varna and Sofia. The Festival Hall also hosts the
Annual
International Film Festival
in late August and early September.

Varna on foot on these free, twice-daily walks, guided by friendly, English-speaking
young volunteers. Leaving from in front of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin,
the walks take about two hours.

summertime hop-on, hop-off bus tour, with recorded multilingual commentary, runs
between the resort of Albena and Varna, with several stops along the way. You can pick it
up outside the cathedral in Varna.

more central) places get very busy during the summer months.
