Festivals & Events
Between May and October, Varna hosts the renowned Varna Summer International
Festival ( www.varnasummerfest.org ) . Established in 1926, the festival features outstand-
ing events, including opera, the biennial International Ballet Competition (held in even-
numbered years) and choral, jazz and folk music. Events are held at the Open-Air Theatre
( Click here ) and in some of the nine halls in the massive Festival Hall
( www.fccvarna.bg ; bul Slivnitsa 2) . Programs and information about buying tickets are
well advertised beforehand in Varna and Sofia. The Festival Hall also hosts the Annual
International Film Festival in late August and early September.
Other special events around the city include the Songs about Varna Competition and
the Days of Greek Culture Festival , both held in March.

Varna on foot on these free, twice-daily walks, guided by friendly, English-speaking
young volunteers. Leaving from in front of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin,
the walks take about two hours.
Varna City Tour

summertime hop-on, hop-off bus tour, with recorded multilingual commentary, runs
between the resort of Albena and Varna, with several stops along the way. You can pick it
up outside the cathedral in Varna.

Varna certainly has no shortage of accommodation, although the better (or at least, the
more central) places get very busy during the summer months.
Private rooms are plentiful in Varna, and pensioners with spare rooms wait around the
train station to greet new arrivals. Prices tend to be around 12 lv per person, but make sure
