Sveti Stefan Church

Sun) Built in the 11th century and reconstructed 500 years later, this is the best-preserved
church in town, renowned for its beautiful 16th- to 18th-century murals, which cover vir-
tually the entire interior. Try to come early, as it's popular with tour groups.
Sveti Spas Church

(Church of the Blessed Saviour; ul Aheloi; adult/child 3/2 lv; 10am-1.30pm & 2-5pm
Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm Sat & Sun) This modest, single-nave church was built in 1609, below
ground level, as dictated by the Ottoman authorities of that time. It features some well-
preserved murals depicting the life of Christ and the Virgin Mary.

Basilica of the Merciful Virgin

(ul Kraybrezhna) Overlooking the sea, the Basilica of the Merciful Virgin dates from the
6th century, and later became a monastery. The fortified tower alongside it was built as a
response to pirate raids along the coast; eventually abandoned and partly swallowed by
the sea, it was only rediscovered by archaeologists in the 1920s.

Sveta Paraskeva Church

(ul Hemus) A fine example of 13th-century architecture is the Sveta Paraskeva Church,
which has only one nave and one apse. The building is now occupied by an art gallery.

Ethnographical Museum

wooden National Revival building, built in 1840 for a wealthy merchant, this museum
features exhibitions of folk costumes and traditional weaving.
