town- centre choice with clean and spacious rooms, all with balconies, and a good restaur-
ant downstairs. It's right in the thick of the action, and around 50m from South Beach.
Cheaper rates are offered for longer stays.
Spektar Palace $

) Closer to the bus station than the beaches, Spektar has large rooms and excellent
facilities, including a small pool and gym. The hotel also arranges trips to Istanbul.

On a quiet street overlooking North Beach, the Plovdiv is excellent value. Rooms are ba-
sic but bright and perfectly comfortable. There's a restaurant and a children's pool. Prices
vary throughout the year.

Kebabs, pizzas and burgers from stalls around town seem to be standard fare for most vis-
itors. Some of the better restaurants are on ul Cherno More.
CAFE
Bistro Silva $
(South Beach; mains from 3 lv) Set right on the beach, this is a great place for a quick,
cheap lunch. You can sit on the wooden terrace or in one of the old fishing boats alongside
that are fitted out with tables, and tuck into dishes such as moussaka, pizza, and chicken
and rice.
Restaurant Chaika $$
( 32 990; ul Cherno More 40; mains 5-20 lv; 8am-midnight) Grilled octopus, mack-
erel and other fishy dishes feature here; other options include stuffed peppers and goulash.
There's outdoor seating in the shady little park behind the restaurant.
