ATMs are on the square and especially on the section of ul 23 Pehoten Shipchenski Polk
that runs between the square and ul Petko Stajnov. A Telephone Centre is inside the post
office.

Getting There & Away
From the bus and train stations, it's a 10-minute walk (or 2 lv cab ride) northwards to the
square. Kazanlâk's bus station ( 62 383; ul Kenali) has connections to Sofia (18 lv, 2½
hours, six daily), Veliko Târnovo (17 lv, 2½ hours), Lovech (18 lv, three hours), Plovdiv
(13 lv, two hours) and Karlovo. An hourly bus serves Gabrovo (9 lv, 60 minutes to 90
minutes) via Shipka.
Minibuses for Stara Zagora (6 lv, 45 minutes) run half-hourly from just outside the
main station. Along the road by the roundabout, town bus 6 (1 lv, 25 minutes, half-hourly)
runs to Shipka; the central stop for this bus is at the corner of Knyaz Al Battenberg and
Sveti Kiril & Metodii.
The Kazanlâk train station ( 662 012; ul Sofronii) serves Sofia (21 lv, 3½ hours,
three daily) and Burgas (19 lv, three hours, four daily), via Karlovo (5 lv, one hour, six
daily). Trains to or from Plovdiv often involve changing at the Tulovo station, just before
Kazanlâk station.
Shipka

The tiny mountain village of Shipka, impressively set in the foothills of steep mountains,
lies near the famous Shipka Pass. The one good route through the Stara Planina, the pass
was where the Russian army and Bulgarian volunteers decisively thwarted an Ottoman
