new hotel in the western part of town is remarkably popular with foreign travellers, and
represents good value; rooms are clean and spacious (though not as terrific as the on-site
restaurant). Staff are friendly and helpful.

While there is something distinctly odd about this new hotel set in a dusty residential
part of south Shumen, it does boast the city's most distinctive rooms. Each is painted in
various soothing tones and with minimalist decor and the occasional canopy bed. Sauna,
Jacuzzi and massage (from 25 lv) are offered, and Nirvana's 'gourmet' restaurant is re-
markably good.

Despite
the name, the Acktion Center is a modern business hotel with 11 rooms and five apart-
ments, all done up in handsome modern style. It's reasonably central and offers a manicur-
ist, hairdresser and cosmetics salon.

This tiny side-street 'family hotel' is a 10-minute walk west of the bus station and of-
fers clean, simple rooms, though the apartments are not enormous. There's a relaxing cafe
at ground level and staff are kind.
