ous hotel enjoys a secluded garden setting and does excellent, innovative Bulgarian
cuisine, such as rabbit with plums, braised trout, pork with blue cheese and more.

(pl Vâzhrazhdane 1; mains 9-17 lv; 10am-10:30pm Tue-Sun) The restaurant of the
Hotel Renaissance cooks up a wide range of inventive appetizers (duck lung stuffed with
apple, anyone?), plus grills, risottos and fresh fish from the Aegean. The local wine list is
particularly strong, the service friendly and attentive.

the pedestrian mall, popular with locals and foreigners alike, has a huge (and colourful)
menu strong on grilled meats.

pedestrian underpass, the friendly Gusto has diner-style booths upstairs and cosy tables
downstairs, both with classy decor. While it's arguably not even the best offering, pasta
accompanied by wine seems the most popular choice.

Philippopolis Restaurant & Café $$$

cafe, this restaurant belonging to the eponymous art gallery has a garden section with
views, and indoor dining too. They've gone upmarket now, however, complementing an
extensive array of meat and fish dishes with a long wine list - at prices to match.
