HOTEL
Hotel Bolyarka $$
( 2383; www.bolyarka.hit.bg ; s/d/apt incl breakfast 40/60/130 lv; ) The spiffy
Bolyarka has elegant and well-decorated rooms, and apartments with fireplaces. Sauna
and massage treatments are available, but the authentic Ottoman-era hamam (Turkish
bath) is for viewing only. The on-site restaurant is excellent. Bolyarka's about 300m
straight down the main street on the right-hand side.
Chavkova Kâshta $
( 0893 505-090; www.themelnikhouse.com ; ul Melnik 12; s/d 30/40 lv; ) This
friendly pension, a two-minute walk straight in from the bus on the left, under the square's
giant plane tree, has airy and clean rooms (the only drawback being the shower shoots
onto the floor). There's a tasty mehana (tavern) attached for dinner or drinks.
PENSION
Hotel Bulgari $
( 2215; www.hotelbulgari.net ; s/d 30/50 lv; ) This imposing new hotel, located after
the square on the left, seems out of place - but considering the shiny, sleek and spacious
rooms, it would be well suited to guests anywhere and is surprisingly good value. The
cavernous restaurant is more suitable for banquets than intimate dining, though.
HOTEL
Lumparova Kâshta $
( 0888 804-512; r per person 25 lv; ) The Lumparova has cosy rooms with balconies
that enjoy fantastic cliff views, and attractive decor and beds. There's traditional food and
wine tasting, too. It's up a steep path starting behind the village.
PENSION
St Nicola Hotel $
( 2286; stnicola@datacom.bg; d/apt from 50/90 lv; ) At Melnik's far end near
the history museum, the St Nicola offers excellent value. Rooms are large, cheery and
tastefully furnished, and the apartment has sun terrace, lounge, kitchen and big bathroom.
There's a tasty restaurant, serving the famous house wine.
