Tours
There are a number of free tours you can join to explore Sofia and the surrounds, run by
enthusiastic local volunteers; donations, to keep these enterprises going, are much appre-
ciated. Some hostels organise day trips for guests.
Rila Monastery is awkward to visit in one day by public transport from Sofia, so an or-
ganised tour may be more convenient. However, renting a car or even chartering a taxi for
the day may be cheaper for a group of two to four people.
