MEDIEVAL ARTS FESTIVAL
This annual celebration of all things medieval is held in Sighişoara in mid-July and is ar-
guably the country's best time-travel event.
MARAMUZICAL FESTIVAL
Vadu Izei, together with the neighbouring villages of Botiza and Ieud, hosts this four-day
international folk-music festival in the middle of July.
NEDEIA MUNŢILOR
Not far from Braşov, Fundata holds an annual 'mountain celebration' folk festival around
20 July. The location is appropriate; at 1360m, it's the highest village in Romania.
August
If you can take the heat, this is an ideal month to visit. Long days filled with sun
bring crowds to the coast and the mountains. There's a mid-month holiday (15
August), so book hotels in advance.
INTERNATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL OF THE
DANUBIAN COUNTRIES
In odd-numbered years, the Danube Delta gateway city of Tulcea hosts visiting folk
troupes from around Central and Eastern Europe.
HORA DE LA PRISLOP
A folk-music festival held on the second Sunday in August at the Prislop Pass in Mara-
mureş celebrating the sheep returning from the mountains.
