Archaeological Park

(cnr B-duls Ferdinand & Tomis; 24hr) Near the city's main intersection, B-dul Ferdin-
and and B-dul Tomis, is the Archaeological Park, which has remains of the 3rd-century
Roman city wall and the 6th-century butchers' tower, loads of Roman sculptures and the
modern Victory Monument (1968).

SEASIDE PROMENADE & AROUND
One of the city's finest assets is a peaceful promenade that meanders along the waterfront,
offering sweeping views of the Black Sea. The crown jewel of the promenade is the glori-
ously derelict casino . There's also the evocative Genovese Lighthouse and a Statue of
Mihai Eminescu .

Constanţa's amazing art nouveau casino, dating from 1910, was awaiting a long-overdue
renovation at the time of research, but the city had opened the building to visitors to peek
in and see some serious splendour (including the world's most amazing chandeliers) in a
perilous state of neglect.

cluding a large selection of endangered sturgeon, as well as local freshwater species.

8am-6pm) Constanţa's Orthodox cathedral, built in 1885 in Greco-Roman style, is a beau-
tiful building and worth a peek to admire the dark, sombre interior. In front of the cathed-
ral are some ruins of ancient Tomis.
