In-Depth Information
Lacu Roşu is most visited in summer for boating and hiking in the nearby woodlands.
The village has only 60 full-time inhabitants, no ATMs, and one year-round supermarket.
In summer, other shops operate, and even in autumn a few stubborn trinket sellers lay in
wait. At time of research, the village was also awaiting wi-fi internet.
The lakefront tourist information kiosk has multilingual info brochures and organises
boat hire. A flat scenic track circles the lake, while other more demanding trails ascend
the various peaks, all offering stunning views.
The main road continues another 26km to Gheorgheni via the similarly scenic Bucin
mountain pass.

restaurant. Try Transylvanian potatoes with onions, mountain trout, or chicken stuffed
with mushrooms and cream (26 lei).
