Hiking is excellent here. The two main bases are Cabana Gura Zlata and Cabana Pietrele.
From Cabana Gura Zlata, which is reached by paved road south of Ulpia Traiana -
Sarmizegetusa, there are oodles of well-marked hikes. Another 12km south of the cabin is
Lacu Gura Apei
, a glacial lake you can stick your feet in (it's cold).
