Getting There & Away
The train and bus stations are five minutes' walk north of the centre at Piaţa Garii. It's
easy enough to pop into town for a quick citadel look-around and then get back on the
road. The 'information' desk by the train station tracks keeps bags if you ask, with no set
price.
Bus
The bus station spills across the parking lot in front of the train station. Frequent buses
and microbuses go to Orăştie (8 lei, 30 minutes) and Hunedoara (6 lei, 25 minutes). Other
services include hourly runs to Petroşiani (15 lei), four daily to Timişoara (30 lei) and
three weekly to Sibiu (25 lei). Private maxitaxis to Cluj-Napoca (36 lei, five daily) and
Târgu Mureş (40 lei, two daily) leave from an alternate 'station' directly in front of the
train station.
Minibus 6 also does a circuit of Deva, running when full and costing 2 lei per journey.
Train
Deva has many train links. Daily service includes a few direct trains to Bucharest (85 lei,
6½ to 7½ hours), three to Cluj-Napoca (51 lei, 3¼ hours), three with changes to Sibiu (35
lei, 3½ to 4½ hours) and a couple to Timişoara (47 lei, 3¼ hours), plus at least three daily
trains to Budapest (200 lei, 6½ hours). Buy advance tickets at Agenţia de Voiaj CFR (
