Next door to the Culture Palace is the County Council Building, with a tiled roof and
bright-green spires. Its 60m watchtower may open for visitors, but presently the only
glimpse of the building's interior you can get is the grand, colourful entry with hand-
painted ceilings and stained glass facing the grand staircase upstairs.

On Piaţa Unirii, just past the Romanian Orthodox Greco-Catholic Cathedral Offline map
Google map , is a memorial made of five connected wooden crosses in tribute to the eight
locals killed here.

Teleki Library/Bolyai Museum

Sat & Sun) The Teleki Library (under renovation at the time of writing) contains some
230,000 (and counting) rare books. The adjoining Bolyai Museum (if locked, ask the front
desk to open it) is dedicated to Târgu Mureş' sons Farkas and János Bolyai, 19th-century
mathematicians whose advances superseded Newtonian theories, shaping space science as
we know it. If that's boring to you, scalps and skull parts are also displayed.

Orthodox Cathedral

The dominating Orthodox Cathedral (1925-34) was designed to impress, with gold icons
(as well as a politically charged mural of a 'Romanian peasant' Jesus being whipped by
nobles in Hungarian costumes inside; look to the left and right after entering).

(Biserica Sfântul Jonos) Across the street from the Orthodox Cathedral is this airier,
baroque -style church, which dates from 1728.
