Shopping
Cafe Artizanat
(Str 9; 10am-8pm) Close to the church, this cafe has a terrace next to a barn selling a
range of felt slippers (33 lei) and 'hobbit'-style hats (60 lei). Each pair of socks is knitted
by a different villager enrolled in the cottage industry. Sit outside in your new hat and en-
joy a homemade slice of cake and glass of local wine.

Făgăraş Mountains
Looking over bucolic Saxon Land, the forbidding Făgăraş Mountains look like something
from Lord of the Rings . The Transfăgărăşan Road - a real Transylvania highlight for those
hiring wheels - sometimes opens only in early June, after the last of the snows melt from
the road, closing by early October. Access points from the north - Făgăraş and Victoria -
are situated outside the mountains and lack any sort of mountain-air quaintness.
