Bran is an easy DIY day trip from Braşov. Buses marked 'Bran-Moieciu' (6 lei, one hour)
depart every half-hour from Braşov's Bus Station 2 (Autogara 2). Return buses to Braşov
leave Bran every half-hour from roughly 7am to 6pm in winter, and 7am to 10pm in sum-
mer. All buses to Braşov stop each way at Râşnov.
From Bran there are about a dozen buses daily to Zărneşti (5 lei, 40 minutes), and a few
to Pitesţi originating from Braşov.
AROUND BRAN
Be sure to stop at the roadside for fresh cheese and honey as you meander through green
hills studded with farms and hayricks. Some 4km southeast of Bran, on a road that starts
paved but quickly deteriorates to moonscape, is the village of Şimon , with shoulder-to-
shoulder villas and hiking trails leading into the Bucegi Mountains. Mama Cozonacilor (
0745-151 424; www.branturism.ro ; r 80 lei; ) is a pleasant 25-room complex
backed by a steep hill; staff arrange activities such as hikes, biking, horse rides and paint-
ball. Breakfast is 25 lei.
