Air
Bulgaria has good air links with numerous European cities, as well as some cities in the
Middle East, with Sofia being the main entry point. There are currently no direct flights to
Bulgaria from further afield, and so visitors from, for example, North America or Aus-
tralia will need to pick up a connecting flight in Europe. Varna and Burgas have the only
other international airports in Bulgaria, and these are particularly busy during the summer
when they are used by charter flights.
Airports
Sofia Airport ( www.sofia-airport.bg ) The main point of entry to the country.
Varna Airport ( www.varna-airport.bg ) Domestic flights and seasonal flights to and from
European destinations.
Burgas Airport ( www.bourgas-airport.com ) Mainly used for summer charter flights.
Airlines
The Bulgarian national carrier is Bulgaria Air ( www.air.bg ) . It has an unblemished safety
record, and operates flights to destinations across Europe and the Middle East as well as
domestic routes to the Black Sea coast. International airlines flying to Bulgaria include the
following:
Aegean Airlines ( www.aegeanair.com )
Aeroflot ( www.aeroflot.ru )
