BI Table is a datamart, in that the data in the Market Basket BI Table is
a subset of the data in the data warehouse and the data is transformed to
meet a specific requirement for a specific application. That application is,
of course, the Market Basket Analysis application. But, before we look too
closely at the tables, let's look first at the big picture, the architecture. The
Market Basket set of applications includes two architectural branchesā€”
Analysis and Reporting.
market Basket Analysis Architecture
The Analysis architectural branch, shown in FigureĀ 6.1, begins with a data
warehouse. The data from the data warehouse passes through a Market
Basket Table and a Market Basket BI Table. Analysts query the Market
Basket BI Table directly. All these steps occur at the direction of the ana-
lysts. These are not daily batch scheduled operations. Rather, the analysts
choose which data will be analyzed and when the data will be refreshed to
support that analysis.
