outcrops provide valuable stepping-stones for birds and bats. In the case of raptors,
rocky outcrops help to create the thermal updrafts.
Rocky outcrops are valuable sources of water for
animals. Rainwater that collects in rock pools (called
gnammas) (Figure 5.6) not only provides animals with
drinking water but supports a unique community of
aquatic invertebrates.

most species-rich parts of
farms, particularly for reptiles
