Capital of the midwest, sun-drenched 'Gero' is surrounded by excellent beaches offering
myriad aquatic opportunities - swimming, snorkelling, surfing and, in particular, wind
and kite surfing. The largest town between Perth and Darwin has huge wheat-handling
and fishing industries that make it independent of the fickle tourist dollar, and seasonal
workers flood the town during crayfish season. Still a work in progress, Gero blends big-
city sophistication with small-town friendliness, offering a strong arts culture, a blossom-
ing foodie scene and some great local music.
