Multiple entry and exits were also part of the quilombo strategy, and people easily
slipped in and out of the village, much to the endless annoyance of the final expedition.
Other defensive techniques like drop traps, slip nooses, snipers, poisoned stakes along
thepath,andjujusuchasskull-linedroadstoscareintruders(thiswasusedtogreateffect
at the third and fourth expeditions) were widely used.
