WATER SPORTS
The Sea
With such a beautiful coastline, it's no surprise there is so much to do on the water. In sum-
mer, you'll find the usual jet skiing, waterskiing and wakeboarding (€30 to €50) rides at a
number of beaches.
More mellow are the year-round sea kayaking (€35) forays around the turquoise rocky
coves of the Calanques near Marseille.
Snorkelling and diving are popular, too. Underwater nature trails and guided tours (€30)
make snorkelling a real discovery. Note, however, that the sea is only really warm enough
to snorkel from June to October, unless you wear a wetsuit.
Divers will love the diversity of dive sites off French coastal waters, including numerous
shipwrecks. Most dive clubs offer courses (€300 to €500) as well as single dives (€50) and
rental equipment.
Rivers & White Water
Canoeing is a tranquil way to discover the bucolic waterways of Provence. It is particularly
popular around the Camargue and in the Vaucluse.
For an adrenalin rush, nothing beats the green waters of Gorges du Verdon or the moun-
tain rivers of Haute-Provence for canyoning, floating, rafting and white-water kayaking.
Allow €35/60 for a half/full day.
WEATHER CHECK
