In-Depth Information
PRICES
Budget hotels usually charge the same rates year-round. Mid- and top-end lodgings typic-
ally use three sets of seasonally adjusted prices:
»Low season (October/November to February/March)
»Mid-season (March to May and September/October)
»High season (June to August)
With the exception of prices for chambre d'hôte and maison d'hôte , rates don't include
breakfast, which costs anything from €7 to €30 per person.
Every hotel is obliged to charge a daily taxe de séjour (tourist tax) on each visitor in their
jurisdiction; the daily tax (€0.20 to €1.50) is set by the local authority and can be applied
year-round or seasonally.
All but the smallest hotels take credit cards; Visa and MasterCard are universally accep-
ted but only larger establishments will take American Express.

Special Events
Big-ticket events such as the Monaco Grand Prix, Festival d'Avignon, Cannes film festival
or Nîmes férias bump up prices beyond belief. Rooms also get booked up fast so try to
work around these dates - unless of course you're attending, in which case you should
book as soon as you have tickets.
