From UK & Ireland
T here are no direct ferries to Provence, but year-round ferries connect the UK and
France. Dover to Calais is shortest. Fares fluctuate wildly. Advance purchase is advised.
Foot passengers aren't permitted on Dover- Dunkerque car ferries. On Dover-Calais
P&O ferries, foot passengers are permitted only during daytime crossings (and, from Cal-
ais to Dover, in the evening); confirm foot-passenger restrictions before purchase. On fer-
ries allowing foot passengers, bicycles are often (but not always) free.
Other ferry routes: Newhaven to Dieppe, Poole to Cherbourg and St-Malo, Portsmouth
to Caen/Cherbourg/Le Havre/St-Malo, and Weymouth to St-Malo.
Ferries also connect southern Ireland (Cork and Rosslare) and northern France.
