GETTING THERE & AWAY
Since European integration, no checkpoints exist between France and EU countries. The
border (
la douane
) now officially roves: you may be asked by border-patrol agents any-
where in France to show papers. Arriving from non-EU countries, you'll need a valid pass-
port (and visa, if applicable) to clear customs. EU citizens need only their identification

Air
Tickets are cheapest early spring and late autumn. International departure taxes are in-
cluded in ticket prices.
Several no-frills airlines (easyJet, Flybe, jet2.com and Ryanair) serve Avignon, Mar-
seille, Nice, Nîmes and Toulon from European destinations.
Airports
Provence has two major airports: Marseille-Provence and Nice-Côte d'Azur. Additionally,
Avignon-Caumont, Nîmes-Garons and Toulon-Hyères serve limited international destina-
tions.
